Introduction
Peak shaving
The peak shaving relay cascade is a special local control mode that is implemented to switch relays in specific order on or off for peak shaving. This works similar to a last-in-first-out (LIFO) queue.
- When the grid power drops below the switch-on threshold: The next relay that is currently off will be switched on
- When the grid power rises above the switch-off threshold: The last relay that is currently on will be switched off
This can be used to control the grid power to remain between the on and off thresholds, with on/off loads.
Order of the relays
The order of the relays is determined by:
- The device priority (configureable on the device settings page)
- For device of the same priority, devices are switched on in alphabetical order
Configuring the special control mode
Relay device settings
For each of the relays that are controlled, it is recommended to set the 'Use case' to 'Switching a device or circuit' in the device settings page. You should also set the 'Default device state' to whatever is desirable in case there is a problem with the control mode.
Note
Minimum & maximum switch on and wait times: Timing related device settings are ignored in the peak shaving relay cascade control mode. You can however configure a debounce time between switching on and off when enabling the control mode.
Enabling the special control mode
- Go the the 'External signals' page on the SmartgridOne Controller's interface.
- Click 'Start wizard'
- Choose 'Special local control modes'
- Choose 'Generic'
- Choose 'Peak shaving relay cascade'
- Set the thresholds and the debounce times
